Understand The Different Terms In Blackjack
Understanding the game of blackjack includes understanding of the different terms used in the game. Since each game will have a bunch of words akin to it then it is well for every player to be versed in the terms used in blackjack.
We'll start of with our list of terms with the very first and most important term a casino player should know. We'll begin with Bankroll. This term doesn't only apply to blackjack but to a host of other games you'll find in any casino. A Bankroll is the amount of money you gamble in a casino. Be it blackjack or any other game, managing your Bankroll is a key to success whenever you're gambling.
Next term we'll hear in blackjack (and other games as well) is Bar. We're not talking about the place to get drinks, this means that a player is removed from a casino. This is also called being "86ed" and means that a player is out of the casino permanently. Not a very good way to end a blackjack session.
Next blackjack term we'll talk about is Action. This refers to a live bet, meaning that we have actual cash riding on our betting area.
The next term is Back Counter. In blackjack a Back Counter is not counting people's backs, this refers to a person who is not seated on a blackjack table but is counting the cards.
Since we've mentioned it our next blackjack term is Card Counting. Basically this term refers to a strategy players employ to figure out which group/type of cards are left and haven't been dealt yet. It is a way to keep track of high cards played and comparing that to low cards played -- more like monitoring the ratio of these cards on the table.
A Hit in blackjack means to take another card other than the one's originally dealt to you. The card received when a player requests a Hit is also called a Hit. Next term is a Burn Card. This refers to the card that is discarded after a deck is shuffled and cut.
Out next blackjack term is Blackjack. Yes, this is the game we play but this also has another meaning when on the table. This is considered the perfect blackjack hand. It consists of Ace and a Ten-Value card (the Ten or any of the face cards). This hand is also called a Natural.
A Cold Deck is not one that has just popped out of a freezer. This blackjack term means that the deck used isn't working for the players. The reason for this may be that the deck could be overloaded with smaller cards.
The last term we'll get to hear a lot is Bust. This blackjack term means that a player's hand has a value more than 21. This usually results when you ask for a Hit and you go over.
Hopefully when you've played a few games you'll get used to all these terms and get comfortable with the things going on in a blackjack table.
