Understanding Balckjack Jargon
Players who have encountered blackjack for the first time find blackjack jargon intimidating and complex. Blackjack jargon can seem quite scary on a first-time basis, but is becomes easy as you familiarize yourself with the game. To help you understand blackjack jargon, here is a short list of blackjack terms that you will encounter in most parts of the games:
Hit Hit is probably the most important blackjack jargon that you should understand. To "hit" is to accept more cards from the dealer, hence you keep on "hitting" as long as you want to reach twenty-one.
Stand Stand is also an important blackjack jargon, which means that you have decided to stop accepting cards. Hence, you "stand" if you believe that the next card is large and will go past twenty-one.
Bust A "bust" tells of a set of cards that has reached past twenty-cards. Considered as an instant loser, the bust is the set of cards you are trying to avoid, which is why you decide to "stand" at some point.
Split A split is another kind of blackjack jargon that refers to a type of bet. A chance to split occurs if you have received the first two cards with the same rank (like two 8's), and you are offered to split the cards, thereby making you bet for two sets of cards.
Double Down Double down is also another form of betting in the blackjack jargon, which is to double the initial bet. A player can double down after two cards are dealt, and he or she can only accept one more card.
Shoe Game A shoe game is a type of blackjack game wherein the dealer deals the cards openly. A player is never allowed to touch the cards during a shoe game--doing so might endanger the player of being accused of cheating.
Hand-held Game The opposite of shoe game, the dealer deals the cards facing downwards, and players are allowed to use one hand in touching the cards.
Blackjack The blackjack is the overall objective of the blackjack player. Blackjack is when the player obtains twenty-one with his or her cards. When a player reaches twenty-one with an Ace and a pair of cards equivalent to ten, then the cards are said to be of natural blackjack.
Blackjack jargon certainly seems gibberish to players who are not familiar with blackjack. However, as soon as you have mastered the basics of the game, it will be a short while before you understand and use blackjack jargon like a pro.
